DND vs Bulk SMS

The Do-Not-Disturb service allows Mobile Network customers to opt out of receiving promotional messages for 3rd Party services (Bulk SMS, VAS promos, etc.)
What are the main features of DND?

The service will feature the following:

  •  Fully Blocked mode allowing customers to Opt Out totally from receiving promotional messages via SMS and IVR.
  • Partially Blocked mode allowing customers to filter service categories for promotional messages they wish to receive. Any category not selected is blocked.

MTN has automatically subscribed many users to the D-N-D service. This means many of your MTN recipients will not be able to get your messages because D-N-D has been activated on their lines. Unfortunately, many of the MTN users do not know that their lines have been activated for D-N-D. Therefore, it is necessary for you to orientate your users about their D-N-D status.
MTN users are advised to confirm the status of their lines by sending “STATUS” to 2442. If the service is NOT active, the user can choose to activate the service or not but in case the service is automatically active and the user is not comfortable with it, follow these procedures to unsubscribe.
1. Send STOP to 2442
2. Send ALLOW to 2442
Please note that whenever D-N-D is active on a line, the line will not be able to receive any message sent through bulk SMS platfrom.

Below are the various options: “SMS 1” for receiving SMS relating to Banking? Insurance/ Financial products to 2442 “SMS 2” for receiving |SMS relating to real Estate to 2442 “SMS 3” for receiving SMS relating to Education to 2442 “SMS 4” for receiving SMS relating to Health to 2442 “SMS 5” for receiving SMS relating to Consumer goods and Automobiles to 2442” “SMS 6” for receiving SMS relating to Communication/ Broadcasting Entertainment/IT to 2442 “SMS 7” for receiving SMS relating to Tourism and leisure to 2442 “SMS 8” for receiving SMS relating to Sports to 2442 “SMS 9” for receiving SMS relating to Religion to 2442 Ojobo pointed out however that the decision of the Commission does not affect personal messages or person to person messages which are private communication by individuals.
